So I've been doing some testing recently in lieu of not wanting to take the time just yet to look at the back end of the game, and decided to record some observations about how much experience it takes for characters to level up in jobs and races.
Elf takes 30% more exp to reach a given level, both from 1 and from the level before it, than Magician. This has some consistency between races and jobs, but Martial Artist takes about 10% more job exp for any given level than, say, Gadabout, so there's enough variation that it's hard to say. This pattern seems to extend to Intermediate and Advanced jobs and races, though as the jobs and races themselves change there will be variance; High Elf compared to Black Mage is 33% more exp per level, for instance.
So for Magician, the marginal amount of exp to reach the next level per level, and cumulative exp required to reach that level from 1: Level Marginal Cumulative
- 0 0
- 10 10
- 29 39
- 55 94
- 92 186
- 134 320
- 186 506
- 243 749
- 308 1057
- 380 1437
So reaching level 3 takes triple the effort of going to level 2, and then the marginal amount stops growing as quickly, taking twice as much for 4 as 3, then 1.6x, and gradually sloping down to about 1.25x more exp to reach level 10 than to reach level 9 than to reach level 8. This scaling seems to be about universal; so if you had access to the marginal amount of exp required to reach level 10 in some class, you could figure out how much exp it took for any given level by extrapolating.
Intermediate jobs and races take about 50% more exp than basic, while advanced seems to take about 3x more than basic. Overall possible variance is higher than 10% (High Apoptosis takes 45 exp to reach level 2, as opposed to 40 for many other advanced races), but I'm not sure how high it goes. Superstar takes 2x basic exp and perhaps BF as well, while queens take 3.75x basic race exp?
As an example, take Noble Yoma level 3 > 4. As an advanced race, it should take 3x as much exp as a basic race, and in turn about 4x as much exp as a basic job, so the expected amount of exp from level 3 to 4 would be 220. Sure enough, reset Alicetroemeria with the Reaper's help, and it's 232, about 5% error. Certainly not perfect, but it's a reasonably quick estimate to compensate.
So anyways, is this useful? Not that much, but I figured it was interesting enough to write down.
New tests! I did some testing for normal exp growth, and found that it was a fair bit easier to work with than job and race exp. Most importantly, if 2 characters have different exp curves, you can tell that regardless of how low level they are. Nothing like jobs, where all basic jobs take 10 exp to reach level 2 but have various total experience costs. So far I've found 6 curves among the characters up to level 4, varying by as much as 11% for how much exp it takes for each level, with that being the comparison between Lime's so far unique curve and the so far highest exp curve shared by Luka, Alice, Ilias, and surprisingly Melk. Lime and Ragora have so far been unique in their experience curve, while every other experience curve so far has at least 3 representatives among what I've tested. Most populous is Bunni's experience curve, holding the imp trio, Pochi, and so far both bandits that are recruited at level 4 rather than above. Most likely there's another experience curve for queen monsters that I haven't gotten to yet, but I haven't gotten to it yet. Otherwise I don't know.
